For women, "round" glasses really refers to shapes that are larger and "more rounded." For example, the Jackie Onassis style of sunglasses was a round shape and although not perfectly round, we include that style in determining women's round eyeglasses fashions. Women's round glasses have been around for for hundreds of years. Scholars, academics, leaders, presidents, musicians, artists, and even kids love round eyeglasses. Round eyewear gives women the look of intelligence, balance, and control, a sense of confidence founded in intelligence, not physical prowess. Women's round glasses are symmetrical, and imbue women with a calm, balanced view of the world, and a stability that comes with it. Round eyewear and round sunglasses are very popular for women these days, and it has been an important part of the female wardrobe for a very long time. When looking for round frames, women should remember that there is a big difference between perfectly round, and almost round. Perfectly round glasses have a different style from almost round frames, because perfectly round is more stylized, and has an older vintage feel. Almost round glasses are also call "Panto" or "P3" style, and are a more modern version of perfectly round glasses. A great example of almost round glasses is the Dolomiti Panto 8 glasses frame. which still offer the classic, intelligent look that lawyers love. All women's round glasses can be customized with prescription lenses, just like all of our glasses and sunglasses, and most of our 350 designer eyewear brands feature round glasses.
Some women do prefer perfectly round glasses. Typically they look for plastics rather than metals, although we do have a large selection of both materials. The plastics offer a more interesting variety of color options, especially in the Lafont collection, and also the Anglo American AA400. In metal, we recommend the Dolomiti Eyewear collection, which is made mostly from copper in the Italian Alps.
"Almost" round basically refers to a shape we in the eyewear trade call the "panto", which is rounded at the bottom and a touch flatter at the top. The panto shape is favored by academics and others, and is regarded as a more retro style.
